REINCARNATION
The Mystic Christ - Chapter Preview
GOD WILL GIVE US ANOTHER CHANCE
All creatures of this world are evolving. Before the end of a particular lifetime each creature evolves and reaches a certain level. In some cases, downfall will also occur. The next birth, whether it will be a higher birth or a lower birth, is determined by the evolution or degeneration of that particular soul. It all depends on the mental, physical and intellectual actions which one performs. Ammachi, Awaken Children, vol. 3
Reincarnation is a central theme in both Hindu and Buddhist philosophy. It also peeps through the pages of the Old and New Testament. Many early Christian fathers embraced reincarnation, as does current Jewish Kabbalistic doctrine. In this chapter we will explore the concept of rebirth as we continue to unify the major religions of the world.
First the bad news. As we begin to see, getting to heaven is perhaps not as easy as we would like it to be. There is only "one way" and that is the surrender of the "I" or ego and love is the path for removing it. Let's recap briefly some of the scriptures we have reviewed in this book. Jesus tells us we are not getting into heaven if we do not become as little children. He says it will be extremely difficult if we are rich (most everyone in the United States is rich in comparison to the rest of the world). He tells us that many are chosen but few will make it. We not only must guard our actions but now we must also guard our very thoughts. He tells us that whatever we do (or fail to do) to any person whatsoever, no matter who they are, we do to him. Have any of us treated Jesus badly lately? He tells us we must love everyone equally in the same way that the sun shines on the just and the unjust. Jesus tells us that simply accepting him as our lord and savior will not be enough. He says that many will come to him saying that they healed in his name and cast out demons in his name and he will say that he does not know them. We wish salvation were easy like pouring cereal out of a box. But it is not easy. There must be a deep and fundamental change in our perception of ourselves and others.
Now the good news. If we don't get it right before we die, God is going to give us another chance because God knows it is not possible to accomplish all of Jesus' commandments in one lifetime. In fact God is going to give us as many opportunities as it takes. Success is built into the plan. No one would expect a six-year old to master calculus after one day in the first grade. He or she must go back to the classroom again and again for what seems, in the mind of the child, to be a very long time. In the same way, God is going to send us to school innumerable times with each lifetime being one day in God's school. What are we studying? We are learning to be like our Father. We are learning to be perfect even as our Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48). In this chapter we will look at Old and New Testament scripture and the writings of the early church fathers to support the idea of reincarnation.
