THE RESURRECTION
The Mystic Christ - Chapter Preview
When the Truth shines in your consciousness, all this that is seen here becomes meaningless. The Universe will be known to be like a picture on a wall. Ammachi, Omkara Divya Porule, part 2
Because the ego originates from the I-am-the-body thought, it will want to associate every aspect of our nature, in the present and in the hereafter, with the body. Herein lies the source of the perversion of the resurrection. We are not able to see that we are not the body and so we are not able to comprehend ourselves as anything but the body. What goes to heaven? A body. What goes to hell and burns in the fires? A body. What is Jesus? A body. What do we want to keep more than anything? Our bodies. What is the central orthodox issue of the resurrection of Christ? His body is resurrected. What is the central issue of the judgement day? Our bodies will be resurrected.
The truth is we are spirit and not a body. We were created by God, from God's very breath and in God's image and God is spirit. Therefore we are also spirit. The body is the container and not the contents. We suffer because we confuse the two.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24, KJV
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:5-6, KJV
Flesh cannot enter the kingdom of God but Spirit can. When we go to heaven we will be like the angels who are not fleshly beings and who have no gender. They are without sex because they are not fleshly bodies. Our true nature is somewhat like the angels but we have forgotten it like the prodigal son.
The ego is troubled when confronted with the idea that our existence may not require a body. This is understandable because the ego revolves around our identification with the body and this identification gives rise to the illusory appearance that we are all separate from one another. The idea of not having a body causes the ego to feel it has been set adrift; floating in the empty space of impermanence. There is an unsettling feeling of being ungrounded, naked and not in control. The ego would rather not think the body is transitory and impermanent.
In one event the Sadducees tested the idea of the resurrection by using a Mosaic law which stated that if a man were to die having no children, then his widow should marry the man's brother (the widow's brother-in-law). The Sadducees wanted to know what would happen if the woman married seven times to seven brothers with the preceding one dying each time. Whose wife would she be in the resurrection because they had all seven been her husband.
Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Matthew 22:29-30, NIV
